Innovation award for Zayndu’s plasma-based seed tech

Zayndu earned an award for Innovation in Manufacturing and Engineering at the glittering LeicestershireLive Innovation Awards 2022, for its plasma-based seed cleaning technology.

Globally the agricultural industry is trying to reduce the use of chemicals and many of the fungicides used in seed treatments are being withdrawn. Zayndu is using plasma – the fourth state of matter – as a chemical free alternative.

The benefits of plasma-based technologies for agriculture are just beginning to gain recognition and Zayndu is at the forefront following the launch of Aurora Z10, the world’s first commercially-available plasma seed cleaning system.

Zayndu, CEO Ralph Weir commented: “The amount of innovation being showcased at the awards was very impressive, so we are delighted to have gained the manufacturing and engineering award.

“Since the launch of our first system, we have been working to reduce its footprint and extend the range of products available.

“It is a very exciting time for Zayndu and recognition of excellence by the judges is a powerful endorsement of our technology.”

Host for the evening was BBC Travel Show presenter and Metro UK technology editor Lucy Hedges, who praised the “phenomenal ingenuity and creativity happening right here on our doorstep”.

She said: “The nominations this year blew our judges away and prove how much talent and innovation there is in Leicestershire.”
