Production Growth: the ‘ever-growing demand for machines’.

At the heart of our production team is a simple ethos: build high-quality machines. We thrive on producing precision engineered, complex electromechanical assemblies that are right first time. The natural pull of increasing customer orders and the desire to reduce lead times never compromises the ‘Quality First’ approach we have in the team.

Once you start with a clear message around quality, everything else falls into place, such as lead times, work order scheduling, takt time, DFx, etc.

We try to keep a consistent ‘tick’ in our machine build and apply Lean manufacturing principles internally and throughout our whole supply chain. This allows us to remove a lot of operational inefficiency and keeps consistent scheduling and build timings.

As sales grow, our tick increases and our resource scales accordingly; this has proven very effective at satisfying the ever-growing demand for machines.

Tyler Smith, Production Lead, comments: “Over the past few months, there has been a healthy increase in sales, which has put a larger demand on production to produce more machines. Naturally, the boost in sales has been great for production. It has enabled production to test themselves and increase the build capacity by 4x the previous.”

Processes and Systems

Processes, where followed, ensure rigour and quality, and systems are the glue to enforce processes and therefore the key to our success. All our key build operations have clear processes that are integrated tightly into overarching systems. This means all machines are built consistently and tested comprehensively prior to reaching customers.

The drive for high performance is not limited to the production team; engineering is constantly working to support the build process and ensure we have the optimal design to build against. This bidirectional flow of information allows us to iterate microcontinual improvements all the way through the build. Every design iteration incorporates production feedback and results in a better machine.

Tyler continues, “The longevity of the machine has naturally increased by simplifying the design and assembly.”

With Quality First, system-driven processes, and continuous improvement firmly in place, scaling production to suit the growth in the global customer base has been a much easier task.
